The primary concerns around deploying Lync in our survey were interesting as well. One of the top Lync issues was that it had too many hidden costs. I've heard some customers tell me that they thought Lync was free, and while under certain circumstances the licenses are free, the servers, IP phones, gateways, Exchange upgrades and other products are most certainly not free. In fact, depending on what's in place, Lync can be one of the highest-cost UC solutions. Free? Ha. Don't make me laugh. However, to the companies evaluating Lync, price doesn't matter as much as its ability to integrate with other Microsoft applications. Other high concerns were that it doesn't interoperate well with legacy solutions, Microsoft security may not meet their requirements and the voice isn't corporate quality.
