Scorecard for the North American UCaaS market. This year's report is the first time vendors were tied for the top spot, according to Diane Myers, senior research director at IHS Markit.
Myers said 8x8 maintained a top spot in the report because of its installed base, financial position and continued execution on its market strategy. RingCentral, noted for having the largest UCaaS installed base, was also recognized for product innovation and strides in financial stability.
The report named the top 10 UCaaS providers that lead the market and are best positioned to succeed in the long term. UCaaS providers are evaluated on certain criteria, including installed base of seats, financial stability, market strategy, service capabilities and support options.
Other UCaaS providers ranked in the report are Verizon, Vonage, West, Comcast, Star2Star, Mitel, Nextiva and Jive. Verizon made a significant jump in the ranking with the introduction of its mobile-first UCaaS offering, One Talk, Myers said.
RingCentral launches webinar service
In other RingCentral news, the vendor has launched a new webinar service, RingCentral Webinar, which can host virtual meetings for up to 3,000 attendees and 200 presenters.
Meetings on the webinar service can be delivered on desktop, tablet and smartphones. Features include high-definition video and audio; the ability to switch presenter roles and screen-sharing rights; dual-screen support; comprehensive registration and post-webinar reporting; customizable invites, reminders and follow-up notices; and the ability to create recordings for post-event sharing and archiving.
"Trends in mobile and social webcasting, cloud proliferation, and real-time reporting and analytics are driving growth in the webinars market," said Roopam Jain, an analyst at Frost & Sullivan, based in San Antonio.
RingCentral Webinar is available to RingCentral Office customers in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. The webinar service can be added at $40 per month, per host license for up to 100 attendees, or $990 per month, per host license for up to 3,000 attendees.
CoreDial adds voice-to-text transcription
White-label cloud communications provider CoreDial has announced the addition of voice-to-text transcription to its SwitchConnex platform.
CoreDial is leveraging the Google Cloud speech API, which offers improved transcription accuracy. The transcription service will initially allow businesses to have voicemail automatically transcribed and sent to users via the ClickConnex mobile app or email. The transcription engine for the API runs on Google artificial intelligence and uses machine learning to improve the accuracy of transcriptions.
The transcription service currently supports English and Spanish language options. CoreDial plans to release new transcription capabilities, such as call recording transcriptions and text redaction for compliance and other business purposes using Google Cloud's data loss prevention API.
