Videxio MeetingConnect uses QR codes to join meetings

Weeks before its planned merger with Pexip, Videxio has unveiled a new cloud service, Videxio MeetingConnect, which seeks to simplify the process of joining online meetings from a conference room.

Videxio has launched a new service that lets users connect third-party video endpoints to online meetings by scanning...

a QR code. The release of Videxio MeetingConnect comes weeks before the company's planned merger with Pexip.

Videxio MeetingConnect generates a QR code for every video endpoint registered in the vendor's cloud. Users can scan that code using Videxio's mobile app, and the endpoint will automatically dial into the meeting.

The service is intended to make it easier to join meetings without booking a meeting room in advance. It should also appeal to organizations with video conferencing hardware and software from multiple vendors.

Businesses can register standards-based endpoints with Videxio, and MeetingConnect helps users join meetings on other platforms, including Zoom, BlueJeans, Cisco Webex and Microsoft Skype for Business.

MeetingConnect's release follows Videxio's rollout in June of a product that integrates third-party endpoints with calendaring software through the Videxio mobile app. Customers can use their phones or a tablet set up in the conference room to connect those endpoints to meetings.

Pexip-Videxio merger nearly complete

In October, Videxio announced its intention to merge with the startup Pexip. The shareholders and boards of directors of both companies have now approved the merger, and the first meeting of the combined company's new board is scheduled for Dec. 17.

Pexip makes a software platform that service providers and enterprises can use to build on-premises or cloud-based video conferencing systems. That product primarily competes with Cisco Meeting Server.

Pexip also facilitates interoperability between third-party endpoints and online meetings software from Microsoft and Google.

Videxio's flagship product is a web conferencing app similar to Cisco Webex or Zoom that it sells through service providers and other channel partners, which brand the service as their own.

Analysts praised the merger for bringing together two complementary portfolios. The combined company will own technology for both on-premises and cloud-based video conferencing.

The two vendors will operate under the name Pexip.
