Call termination gateway requirements

Controlling your own gateways abroad requires certain protocols. Carrie Higbie answers a member-submitted question about call termination services.

When setting up a call termination service in a particular country or region, must the gateway also exist in that same country in order to terminate the call?
Not necessarily. Many of the international data carriers are supplying this as a service and part of a VoIP contract. I would suggest contacting your carrier first to find out if they provide this service and then if it is more cost effective to have them do that for you. If you want to control your own gateways, then you would need a gateway at that location to make the call a local call.
