Messaging apps headline Enterprise Connect

TechTarget chatted with Irwin Lazar, vice president and service director at Nemertes Research, at Enterprise Connect 2015 in Orlando, Fla., to get his thoughts on the unified communications industry. Changes are afoot, it seems, as pervasive messaging apps wove their way into the UC discussions at the conference. But what exactly are messaging apps? Lazar provides some insight.

Although he does not expect large enterprises to ditch their large vendors for purely a messaging app service, Lazar still sees some shifting in the collaboration market.

Messaging apps play a huge part in our collaboration practices, especially when they offer persistence. We have a major initiative going on right now that requires resources from our agile teams to split their time across different team. It would be nearly impossible for them to do what they need to do without messaging apps.
