The workforce is increasingly mobile. Forty-nine percent of workers consider themselves mobile workers who spend more than one-third of their time away from their primary work location, according to Zeus Kerravala, principal analyst at ZK Research. On top of that, nearly 50% of workers consider mobile devices like smartphones and tablets to be their primary computing device.
Having a unified communications and collaboration (UCC) service for your employees is all well and good, but if it doesn't meet the needs of mobile employees there's no guarantee of the service's success. In this webinar, Kerravala explains why mobile UCC should be part of your collaboration strategy and outlines the steps to deploying mobile UCC.
"Mobile UC" is the term used to describe the intersection of UC and advanced mobile and wireless technology. The UC market currently lacks a high-quality mobile collaboration tool; that device gap is being filled with tablets and smartphones, Kerravala says. Mobile devices allow workers to communicate quickly and effectively, so it's no surprise roughly 70% of business smartphones are brought into the enterprise by the worker, or that workers want to be able to use any mobile device for work.
There are three steps to mobile UCC, Kerravala says. The first is implementing mobile management, which is a combination of management processes and components, like security management, telecom management and mobile device management. Implementing mobile management creates a consistent mobile UCC user experience.
The second step is to implement mobile UC itself. Mobile UC includes components such as mobile directory, presence, mobile video and remote chat. The benefits of implementing mobile UC include faster access to individuals, faster access to co-workers and better return on investment than traditional UC. Once an enterprise has implemented mobile UC, employees will save about four to six hours a week, claims Kerravala.
The final step to mobile UCC is building a mobile-first experience. Kerravala says enterprises must start thinking mobile first -- otherwise, workers will not adopt enterprise UCC deployments.
