Normally known for Disney World and other family attractions, Orlando, Fla. is pulsing this week with a display of products and partnerships that will pave the way to a VoIP future. VoiceCon Spring is a gathering for network managers investigating information on converged networks, and how and when to migrate their voice networking systems and services to IP.

"One of the big selling points of (VoIP), is there is more ability to centrally manage, which has tremendous cost implications," said Fred Knight, VoiceCon General Manager.

Taking a personal approach to customer service, Vantis Credit Union deployed Nortel's Expert Anywhere Contact Solution, which lets credit union members interact with service representatives through video kiosks at ATM sites. This ability to make a virtual visit to the credit union means members can physically avoid a branch visit, but can still complete certain transactions. Based in Winnipeg, Canada, Vantis has a membership of 22,000 who are served through six branches in Winnipeg and two rural branches in Manitoba. The Expert Anywhere Contact Solution is a component of the Nortel Application Center, a SIP-based integrated suite of multimedia applications that include Contact Center 6.0, Multimedia Communication Server (MCS) 5100 and the Communication Server (CS) 1000 IP PBX platforms. According to Nortel, Expert Anywhere makes agents, no matter where they are, more accessible to customers so that organizations can build better and longer lasting customer relationships.

LiteScape Technologies, Inc. introduced a new version of its Multi-Modal Application Platform (MAP), the company's core application framework for the rapid development, customization and implementation of enterprise VoIP solutions. LiteScape's IP telephony platform provides users with a set of business rules and configurable policies with security, authentication and access control to enable real-time interactive voice, text and image capabilities. With today's upgrade, the product now includes collaborative communications features including presence management, customizable application development, and connection to instant messaging servers and collaborative platforms.

Sipera Systems rolled out the Sipera IPCS 310 system for comprehensive IP Communications Security. The Sipera IPCS products intelligently and transparently monitor VoIP traffic, detect anomalies in traffic and call patterns, and identify threats in order to protect end-user devices and network infrastructures against attacks, misuse and service abuse. Key features include real-time performance, including secure key management and wire speed encryption/decryption; behavior learning algorithms for traffic and subscriber call patterns; network level intelligence, which correlates events in real-time from different parts of the network for immediate protection of elements against distributed attacks; and automatic and user controlled handling of VoIP SPAM.
