Unify OpenScape Cloud UC platform to rival Cisco and Microsoft

Unify's OpenScape Cloud unified communications platform combines OpenScape Voice and Circuit in an attempt to rival UC products from Cisco, Mitel and Microsoft.

Unify, an Atos company, has combined its voice communications platform with its cloud unified communications and...

collaboration software to take a more competitive product against rivals Cisco, Mitel and Microsoft.

Unify announced last week that it was integrating OpenScape Voice into Circuit to form a new UCaaS product, OpenScape Cloud. The platform gives users access to OpenScape Voice features, such as group conferencing, call failover from any device and encryption of voice communications. It also provides all of Circuit's collaboration features, like video and chat, on any device.

OpenScape Cloud has a pretty complete unified communications and collaboration feature set, said Elka Popova, an analyst at Frost & Sullivan based in San Antonio.

OpenScape Cloud continues a trend of vendors and users migrating to the cloud. However, it comes late to a market that already features products like Cisco's Spark, Mitel's Connect and Microsoft's Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams. The bigger players' platforms will make it more difficult for the product to gain market share. Still, Popova believes the platform can hold its own from a features standpoint.

OpenScape Cloud can deliver the unified communication and collaboration capabilities offered by Spark and Connect, depending on how you're comparing their different offerings, Popova said.

Similar to its competitors' cloud unified communications products, OpenScape Cloud does not force organizations to put their communications infrastructure entirely in the cloud. The platform allows organizations to decide how much of their communications they want to remain on premises.

"With OpenScape Cloud, businesses can choose to gradually migrate from premises-based to cloud-based solutions," Popova said. A hybrid architecture for cloud unified communications platforms is much more feasible because most companies are not ready to commit 100% to the cloud.

If OpenScape Cloud can compete successfully, it stands to take a bite out of a rapidly growing market. The unified communications market is expected to grow from $34.8 billion in 2015 to $96 billion by 2023, according to Global Market Insights Inc.

OpenScape Cloud is available now in the United States, United Kingdom, France and Germany.
