QUESTION POSED ON: 01 November 2007
I have been asked to install a cable for a Nortel wireless access point which will support IP wireless telephones. The measured distance for the run is 99 meters including patch cables which is very close to the maximum allowed. Would installing a CAT 6 cable give us a better margin of error?

EXPERT RESPONSE
It should be supported on either CAT 5E or CAT 6. However, that said, Category 6 provides a much better balance than 5e and may be better suited to this application.

View Carrie Higbie's advice on how to reduce interference issues when installing CAT 5E and 6 cables.
