EXPERT RESPONSE
VoIP service providers will have to be able to transmit 911 calls along
with a call back number and a customer's location information to a PSAP
over the wired E911 network. In addition, they are going to have to work
on collateral explaining their support for E911 and submit a letter to
the FCC to indicate their compliance with the order.
This is going to cost VoIP service providers additional money and that
charge will likely be passed along to their customers.
For the CPE manufacturers, it will likely be decided that all new
equipment provided starting from a certain time next year must be
capable of providing location information. This will likely mean
additional software will be required to support this feature.
