QUESTION POSED ON: 19 July 2004
I have an issue with the implementation of a MultiVoIP box behind my Panasonic Kx-t 616 Pbx . I use FXO option to connect my MVP 130 box to the extension side of the PBX. The problem is when I dial the other end and hang-up, the call process goes into some kind of loop and both ends never terminate the call. I then have to manually restart the unit in order to reestablish the call. I contacted the support for MultiVoIP and was advised to find out the cadence and frequency for the PBX and configure the MVP box accordingly. But until now I couldn't get any workaround for it. Could you help me sort out this issue?

Analog circuits in many networks do not have disconnect supervision. Disconnect supervision is a means of indicating that that far end has gone on hook. This is typically done using battery reversal (where the polarity of the battery is temporarily reversed) or battery denial (where the battery voltage is temporarily removed). For circuits without disconnect supervision, most suppliers have implementations that look for call progress tones (e.g., busy or congestion) in order to determine that the far end has gone on hook. These call progress tones are different for each country. Some suppliers make it easy, meaning they just let you select a country and they automatically set the detection for the proper call progress tones. Some PBX systems, however, may not be using standard call progress tones (the same that are used in the telephony network for a specific country). You'll need to coordinate with Panasonic to find out what call progress tones are being provided and then provide that information to MultiVoIP so they can tell you how to set up their box.
