This really depends on the VoIP solution. If all you want is point to point communication between two people, you can just purchase two IP phones. If you want a VoIP phone system for a business, the type and number of physical devices depends on the supplier of the phone system. Some VoIP solutions are very well integrated in function and management and require that you purchase only one box. Other VoIP solutions are very complex and comprise multiple servers and boxes. In addition to the VoIP system, there are various endpoint devices such as hard phones, soft phones and video phones.
