What are the criteria for evaluating an IP telephony system in a converged network?
This is a loaded question. Are you talking about evaluating its performance, or selection criteria for evaluating which one to purchase? I am going to assume (feel free to write back if I am wrong) that since you say the network is already converged that you are talking about evaluating performance. The clearest indication is quality of calls. You can also check the switches for retransmissions and anomalies that may point to cabling issues or traffic issues on the network. There are several great tools out there. My two personal favorites are Packeteer for bandwidth management and NetScout for a little bit of everything. These are very comprehensive packages that will serve you well. I am sure there are several other great ones out there, and I certainly welcome the opportunity to try them out – the intent is not to offend anyone other vendor, but I have had great experience with the two mentioned and both will look at both local area and wide area circuits. If you need more information or if this is not what you were looking for due to my bad assumption, please let me know!
