How can we have a unified communications architecture for VoIP?

I'm currently working as the Network Administrator for a medium-sized non-profit organization based in New York City. We would like to interconnect our offices with VoIP. We currently have 30 sites connected via ADSL connections through an IPsec VPN, but are tentative to run private VoIP over a public line.

Is MPLS a solution for VoIP? What options do we have to get a proven and unified communications architecture to deploy VoIP?

There are a number of options for providing connectivity between offices for networking and VoIP. You can consider the MPLS-based approach. You just have to speak with the provider to understand their service offering and what type of Service Level Agreement (SLA) they are able to provide. Many customers today are using the MPLS approach and having a single provider link all of their offices together nationwide. One company you can consider talking with is Straitshot.
