RADIUS is used for authentication, authorization, and accounting. SIP is used for the establishment and control of sessions regardless of media (e.g., voice, video, fax and instant messaging). RADIUS does not control sessions like SIP. A prepaid calling platform will likely use SIP for session control and RADIUS for call accounting (which is important for a prepaid calling card platform).
